One Year On: and the best online comparison site award

The eCommerce Awards are almost upon us again, so TFM&A are taking this opportunity to catch up with some 2013 winners to see what they have been up to since they won their prestigious gong.

The awards will take place at Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square on 1 October.

First up, I caught up with Chris Morling, Managing Director of offers online comparison tools to help their users find banking, borrowing & insurance deals. Last year they won the eCommerce Award for Best online comparison site, and have gone on to have an amazing 2014.’s outstanding 2014

“Overall revenue has increased by over 100%, with a 45% increase in the first quarter of 2014,” Chris told me when I asked for some highlights in the business since the Awards last October. “Overall traffic to the site has increased by 73% as well.”

That kind of growth speaks volumes about the progress the team are making, and is testament to the product which won the award. Chris puts their triumph last October down to being strong in so many areas; from the functionality of the site through to what is offered to the consumer.

But being good at what you do isn’t enough to win an eCommerce Award, you have to really stand out from the competition. While simple and highly-functional tools for the user are a good start, where excels is by offering up comprehensive guides on product areas and fostering an active community.

This empowers the customer while giving them a reason to remain loyal.

The value of the award HomepageChris also speaks about how the best online comparison site award gave a real boost within the team, a third party endorsement which says they are doing something special in that space. “It’s not just a shiny award or piece of paper,” Chris said. “It means something. These awards aren’t randomly allocated.”

And how did Chris find getting a table at awards night itself?

“The awards I go to tend to be within our sector, so you meet people in the financial space a lot. At the eCommerce Awards there’s a great mix of people. Last year I ended up talking to the Head of Marketing Tyrells crisps. It’s great to hear what other organisations have been up to a find out what you can learn from each other.”
